Achmat is a long standing anti-apartheid, HIV/AIDS, social justice and LGBTI activist who, among others, co-founded the National Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Equality (NCGLE) in SA. He is also the founder and former Chairperson of the TAC. He is a SJC secretariat member and co-founder, the Chairperson and co-founder of Equal Education, sits on the coordination committee of OSS and LDSF and co-convenes the Coalition to End Discrimination. He is the former head of the AIDS Law Project. He was nominated with the TAC for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 and is a recipient of the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights in 2003. He is also a 2010 OSI Fellow. And the recipient of several other awards and honours – locally and internationally.
Dubula-Majola is the General Secretary of the TAC, a social movement of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in SA, the 2010 co-recipient of the John Lloyd Foundation Award for Leadership, and the recipient of several other awards – locally and internationally.
Isaacs is former Secretary General of Habonim, a progressive Jewish youth movement. In 2007 he founded Students for Law & Social Justice (SLSJ). In 2008, Doron, along with fellow UCT law-graduate Yoliswa Dwane, and other comrades, established Equal Education (EE). He has worked closely on Israel–Palestine issues and coordinated the 2008 SA human rights delegation to Israel/Palestine.
Silber is the coordinator of the Social Justice Collation, having previously worked as a researcher at the TAC. He co-founded the CLSJ, the precursor of Ndifuna Ukwazi with Achmat.
